Borgo Monchiero Heritage – Piedmont charm after your round

Rather than staying in a large conventional golf resort, you can enjoy Italian atmosphere, historic character and plenty of peace and quiet. When travelling for golf, I always appreciate straightforward journeys between the hotel and the course. After all, I would much rather spend my time on the fairways or enjoying a good glass of wine than sitting in the car.

After your round, there is no better place to enjoy the Italian way of life. The area around Monchiero, Barolo, La Morra and Alba is internationally renowned for its wines and cuisine. A golf holiday in Piedmont therefore quickly becomes a food and wine holiday as well.

Two rounds at Golf Club Cherasco

The package includes 2 green fees at Golf Club Cherasco. Playing the same course twice is certainly not a disadvantage – quite the opposite. On an interesting and varied course, I often find the second round even more enjoyable. You already know some of the holes, where it might be better to leave the driver in the bag and where a more conservative strategy could save a shot or two.

Golf Club Cherasco sits beautifully within the typical Piedmont landscape and offers a good balance between a sporting challenge and enjoyable holiday golf. The course rewards thoughtful course management, and simply trying to hit every tee shot as far as possible will not necessarily make life easier.

The first round is about discovering the course, testing different lines and getting a feel for the greens. The second round is where things become particularly interesting: now you know the important areas of the course and can try to improve your score.

Combine golf with the food and wine of Piedmont

Four nights are ideal for a short golf break in Italy. Two golf days can easily be combined with free time to explore one of northern Italy’s most attractive regions.

For wine lovers, a visit to Barolo is almost essential. La Morra, Alba and the small villages of the Langhe are also well worth exploring. The rolling vineyards create one of northern Italy’s most beautiful landscapes, while excellent restaurants, traditional trattorias and some of Piedmont’s most famous wines provide plenty of reasons to stay away from the golf course for a few hours.

That is exactly what makes this Piedmont golf holiday so appealing to me: there is no need to choose between golf and enjoying Italy. In the morning you can be standing on the first tee, in the afternoon driving through the vineyards, and in the evening enjoying Piedmontese cuisine accompanied by a good Barolo or Barbera.
